What Do You Lose Yourself In Each Day?

If you stop for a moment and think about your day, there is probably something you “lose yourself” in without even realising it.

For many of us, it’s social media.

You pick up your phone just to check a message… and suddenly 30 minutes have gone. One reel leads to another, then another, and before you know it you’ve watched ten videos, read five posts, and forgotten what you originally picked your phone up for.

It’s so easy to fall into that cycle.

Social media isn’t all bad of course. It can connect us with friends, inspire us, help businesses grow, and even make us laugh when we need it most. As a photographer, social media is a wonderful way for me to share beautiful moments, celebrate families, and show the magic that happens during a photoshoot.

But it’s also very good at stealing our time.

The Moments We Miss

When we’re constantly scrolling, we sometimes miss the little things happening right in front of us.

The giggle of your toddler across the room.
The quiet cuddle with your baby.
The way your child looks at you when they’re proud of something they’ve done.

These moments are small, but they are the ones that become the memories we treasure most.

Children grow faster than we ever expect. One minute you’re rocking a newborn in your arms, and the next they’re running across the park with boundless energy. Time has a funny way of slipping through our fingers if we’re not careful.

Being Present

It’s not about giving up social media completely. That’s unrealistic for most of us.

Instead, it’s about balance.

Putting the phone down sometimes.
Being present in the moment.
Taking the time to really see the people we love.

Ironically, some of the best memories are the ones that aren’t posted online. They’re the quiet moments that belong just to us.

Capturing Time Before It’s Gone

One of the reasons I love photography so much is that it freezes a moment that would otherwise pass by unnoticed.

A tiny newborn yawn.
A proud toddler sitting up for the first time.
A glowing mum-to-be holding her bump.

These are moments that deserve to be remembered.

Life moves quickly, but photographs allow us to pause time, even if just for a second.

So today, ask yourself a simple question:

What do you lose yourself in each day?

And more importantly…

Are you losing yourself in the things that truly matter?
